In 2022, Craig's first full-length play, Straight On To Stardust, received a public reading by the professional troupe Yellowstone Repertory Theatre (above) at This House of Books in Billings, Montana.
It's safe to say Craig is now hooked on pursuing the form. "It was such a rush, hearing these talented actors breathe life into the characters I'd put on the page. Their interpretations of these people dazzled me and gave me insight into who these characters could be. As a writer, you have one idea. Seeing other creative people bring their own notions to those characters was an experience I won't soon forget."
Before Straight On To Stardust, Craig had dabbled at the edges of theater. A one-act play based on one of his short stories, This Is Butte. You Have Ten Minutes., was performed several years ago by another Billings troupe. "I even took acting lessons when I was a kid," Craig says. "Turns out that my overdeveloped interior life wasn't really suited for being brought out under the lights."
It was an abiding love of the theater-going experience that really stoked his drive to write plays.
"A whole new creative avenue, one where I have a ton to learn," he says. "What could be more fun?"
